MotorTrend and BBC Sign a Deal to Produce Top Gear America

MotorTrend will stream the entire show, as well as classic Top Gear UK episodes, for a nominal fee.

MotorTrend is all in on Top Gear. We mean serious all-in. Beginning in June, the U.S.-based automotive outlet will add 24 seasons of Top Gear UK to its MotorTrendOnDemand.com subscription service, going all the way back through the Clarkson years and into the LeBlanc era. MotorTrend and BBC will produce seasons 25-26 in 2020. However, the relaunched Top Gear America will be of particular interest to U.S. viewers. This fall, the revived series will debut with new hosts and exciting adventures.

The new Top Gear America will be available only through MotorTrend.com’s streaming service for $4.99 per month. MotorTrend content is available online at MotorTrend.com or through the MotorTrend App. The app lists compatibility with various services, including Apple TV, Roku and Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV and Microsoft’s Xbox gaming consoles.

MotorTrend and BBC Sign a Deal to Produce Top Gear America

MotorTrend will broadcast a three-day Top Gear marathon to kick off the Top Gear party on its MotorTrend Network cable TV channel. It will be broadcasted beginning June 1. It was previously known as the Velocity cable channel. In November, MotorTrend rebranded it as MotorTrend network and is now available through most cable TV providers. The multiyear deal for Top Gear includes over 200 episodes. Once the free over the air cable marathon ends, MotorTrend Network’s online streaming service in the U.S. will be the only place where you can view classic Top Gear UK episodes as well as the reborn Top Gear America.

In 2015, Jeremy Clarkson was fired by the BBC. His contract had been renewed in 2015. James May and Richard Hammond were co-presenters of the show. They launched The Grand Tour together with Clarkson via Amazon Prime – a subscription-based service. Although there was some doubt at the start about whether viewers would pay for the trio of motoring personalities, those concerns quickly vanished after Amazon announced that the show was a huge success. MotorTrend’s subscription to MotorTrend to see past Top Gear adventures and to watch a brand new American-based series grow will get similar responses.
