It’s the SUV convertible everyone wanted.
There are only a few options left for SUV-loving convertibles after the death of Nissan Murano Crosscabriolet. Even after the death of the coupe the Range Rover Evoque Convertible continues to be a viable option. The Mercedes-Benz G650 Landaulet offers buyers a semi-convertible option. However, it costs six figures. If reports are to be believed, BMW may be the next manufacturer to introduce a convertible SUV.
According to Motor.es BMW is looking at a convertible version its new X2. The X2 cabrio is a response to the Range Rover Evoque’s success which helped increase JLR sales 26 percent in 2015. It could also be joined by a hardtop coupe later on. BMW believes customers will respond positively to both vehicles. We’re not sure if the X2 rendered convertible… but we have seen it.
BMW already has plans for a few variations of the new X2. A cheaper front-wheel-drive version has been confirmed to be the new X2. It would be the cheapest option, at less than $2,000, compared to the all-wheel-drive standard model.
According to reports, a more powerful version could be made of the X2 with 300 horsepower (223 kilowatts). The new four-cylinder engine, codenamed B48A20T1, would be upgraded to the existing four-cylinder B48. The more powerful X2 could also bear the designation 35i. The more powerful X2 could be equipped with either a manual or identical Aisin eight speed.
The rumored small X2 could become the next big thing for BMW. The SUV already won an EyesOn design award at the Detroit Auto Show for the Best Production Vehicle.
