Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring is The Brand’s Second Plug In

It joins Aviator Grand Touring.

Lincoln introduced the Corsair, its smallest SUV in its range of crossovers and SUVs earlier this year. The Corsair now has a plug-in hybrid version: the Grand Touring model.

The baby Lincoln crossover is designed for younger buyers who don’t require three rows of seating. We were impressed by its stylish styling and luxurious cabin during our first test drive. The Corsair’s handling is excellent, even though it is softer than competitors like the Audi Q3 or Acura RX. The Corsair’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine of 2.3-liters can produce up to 295 horsepower and 310 pounds-feet, making it an excellent performer in this segment.

Grand Touring models use a more complicated powertrain. They have a 2.5-liter gasoline engine that is paired with two electric motors. Although not confirmed, the power target is 266 horsepower (198 Kilowatts). Lincoln expects to have an all-electric range of 25 miles (40 km) or more. We will have to wait and watch to see what else. The Corsair Grand Touring also uses an electric all-wheel drive system. This sends electric power to the rear wheels and supplements the gas-powered front wheels. Lincoln describes this technology as a breakthrough in the compact crossover segment.

The Corsair Grand Touring is similar to its gas-only counterparts. It offers a wide range of options, including add-ons such as the Lincoln Co-Pilot360 safety suite and the 14-speaker Revel sound system. The Corsair options are full of goodies, but that leaves out the big issue: the price.

Lincoln has not yet confirmed the Grand Touring’s price, but it is expected to be more expensive than the non-hybrid models. These can easily exceed $60,000 when fully equipped. Even so, having a plug-in hybrid in luxury compact crossover space is a welcome option and the Corsair itself can be a great platform to begin with.
