Ford’s F-Series sales figures are expected to be released soon.
Through 2020’s third quarter, the bitter battle between Chevy & Ram over which pickup truck will be second to Ford’s continues. Last quarter’s sales numbers have been released by both GM and Ram. The Auburn Hills automaker outperformed its Detroit counterpart by approximately 11,000 trucks. While Ram has lost some ground to Chevy, the Silverado maintains a slight lead for the year.
Ram’s third quarter truck sales saw dealers moving 156,157 light and heavy-duty pickups. This is a surprising result given the ongoing economic disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic. It’s three percent less than the same period last year. Ram has sold 402,410 Ram pickups through September 2020. This is also lower than in 2019.
The Chevy Silverado 1500 sales declined 9.6 percent between Q3 2019 and Q3 2020. However, Silverado HD sold 9.1 percent to offset the loss. Combined, Chevy sold 145,525 Silverados in Q3 2020. Chevy sold 409,967 Silverado pickups this year, maintaining its lead over Ram even though it is a small one. This is something Chevy would love to keep, before Ram sells it again for another year.
The Silverado is only a small part of GM’s pickup sales. The combined sales of the GMC Sierra, and Sierra HD last quarter saw 67,784 units sold. This gives GM a total number of 213,319 trucks sold in the three previous months. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is second. Regular Sierra sales dropped 0.7 percent, while Sierra HD sales increased by 10.6 percent.
GMC, Ram, Chevy and Chevy will likely all fall behind Ford as it releases third-quarter sales figures in a few days. Ford’s F-Series pickups have been sold through Q2 2020 at 367,387, which is close to Chevy and Ram’s respective three-quarter sales totals. With the new 2021 F-150 coming this fall, there is little doubt that Ford will continue to be the leader through Q3 2020 and the rest of 2019.
