Porsche announced plans to bring back the 24 Hours of Nurburgring in an upgraded 911 GT3 R Hybrid.
Version 2.0 is the new model. It features a 470 PS (3/46 kW / 464 hp), 4.0-liter flat-6 engine and two electric motors. The combined output of the engines is 150 kW (201 hp / 204PS) which is 30 kW more than the hybrid. The rear wheels are powered by the engine, and the front is driven by the electric motors. This setup allows the car to instantly produce 200 PS (147kW/197hp) which is extremely helpful when passing.
The new GT3 R Hybrid’s styling is outstanding thanks to its aerodynamically optimized design, which reduces drag as well as fuel consumption. The model is also lighter at 1,300 kg (2.866 lbs), which is 50 kg (110lbs) less than the old car.
Most of the controls are now located inside the car, at the steering wheel. Drivers can now operate key functions from the steering wheel without needing to look at the road.
Hartmut Kristen is the head of Porsche motorsport. He stated that “the emphasis of our work was to improve efficiency. This means that we aim to maintain the 2010 lap times, but also use less energy and thus less fuel. We support the future development of road-going and sporting hybrid vehicles in this manner.
