Porsche 918 Spyder is poised to enter the Nurburgring 24-hr race in 2011

918 Spyder hybrid comes with a total of 528 kW (718 PS / 708 hp) and is said to do a lap around the Nurburgring-Nordschleife track, otherwise known as the Green Hell, in under 7 minutes and 30 seconds.

Porsche announced that the hybrid Porsche 918 Spyder car will be competing in the 24-hour Nurburgring Nordschleife race next year, following recent success with the 911 GT3 R Hybrid driver.

Porsche engineers are currently working on the car in order to increase its speed to 320 km/h. Porsche claims that the 918 Spyder can complete a lap of the Nordschleife track (also known as the Green Hell) in less than 7 minutes and 30 seconds.

This 918 Spyder hybrid concept has been unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March. The V8 engine produces 368 kW (493 hp / 500 PS) and three electric motors produce 160 kW (218 PS/ 215 HP). All this adds up to 528kW (718 PS/ 708 HP). Porsche claims it is considering putting the 918 Spyder into production. This would make it the most powerful road vehicle it has ever made.

The electric all-wheel drive system provides the 918 Spyder, weighing in at 1490 kg (325 lb), with torque vectoring to make it agile. Porsche’s PDK dual clutch gearbox and electric boost function are also featured on the 918.

The Porsche 918 Spyder has a fuel rating that is 3.0 liters/100 km and CO2 emissions of just 70g/km. This makes it look like the Porsche 918 Spyder has a future (assuming these figures are true).
