VAG’s mid-cycle updates are often subtle. However, the refreshed midsize sedan may be an exception.
The U.S. will get a all new Passat in 2019 to replace its aging model. However, Europeans will have the chance to purchase a updated version later this year of the MQB-based midsize model. The facelifted Passat was announced mid-March in Euro attire. However, spies have not yet captured the new model on camera. Europeans will be able to purchase a a href=”https://www.motor1.com/news/236249/vw-passat-facelift–european launch/”>refreshed version of the much more recent MQB-based sedan or wagon.
The closely related Arteon and the newly introduced Touareg have led to the assumption that the Passat will get VW’s shiny new grille, which “meets” its headlights. Although it won’t look as impressive as the other more expensive models, it will give the Passat new life.
The Golf 7.5 received slightly modified bumpers and new lighting clusters. However, the changes are likely to be subtle. The modified Passat has not been revealed by VW. Other than stating that it will be available in a more practical Variant (wagon), and hybrid (GTE),
Do not expect the Passat to get the Touareg’s fancy Innovision Cockpit, which would require extensive dashboard changes. These changes would make the car more suitable for a next generation model than just a facelift. Some new tech, such as extra safety systems or a revised infotainment program, could still be installed. The luxury SUV will be the first to receive a night vision system. Wolfsburg may also offer the thermal image camera as an option to the Passat.
We’d love to see a performance version that is more powerful than the current 280-hp model. This is considering VW is currently developing a new turbocharged, V6 for Arteon with over 300 horsepower. It would be a spiritual successor to sporty Passat models like the R36 , pictured above with its 3.6-liter V6 engine. This is a wishful thinking, however.
