Gordon Murray, McLaren F1 legend, was one the designers of this vehicle.
Yamaha filed a trademark for a compact, sleek sports car design with the European Union Intellectual Property Office in April 2018. The paperwork wasn’t published by the EU IPO until April 23, 2020. However, a member of Cybertruck Talk spotted the document. This coupe could have been a prototype that was not yet finished, but Yamaha had announced it would end automobile development.
The member of Cybertruck Talk It was possible that this vehicle was an electric vehicle because it did not have any obvious exhaust outlets. The inlets on the sides and roof look more like styling elements to a coupe with an internal combustion engine than an electric powertrain.
Yamaha recently demonstrated an electric motor for automobiles. This is further proof that this vehicle is an EV. In the promo video, the company uses a modified Alfa Romeo4C to test it out. It’s not too big of a stretch for Yamaha to present a closer-to-production-ready version of this system in a concept like the one in these rendering
Multiple designers are listed in the design trademark document. Gordon Murray Who is most well-known for his work in sculpting the McLaren F1, is one of them. Also on the crew are Frank Coppuck and Kevin Richards, Masato Suzu, Shawn Poppe and Zachary Seward.
The vehicle’s similarities with the Yamaha Sports Ride Concept 2015 (gallery below) make it even more fascinating because it shows that the company is improving on an already existing concept. Gordon Murray was also involved in the creation of this vehicle. He even contributed an adaptation to his company’s iStream production system. The machine was designed to weigh just 1,653 lbs (750 kg). A 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine of 70 to 80 horsepower (52 kilowatts or 60 kW) would have provided the power.
