The interior is also very modern.
With its debut in January, the Genesis GV80 SUV launched the brand’s “quad lamp” design language. These same styling cues are now available on the full-size sedan. Today, the 2021 Genesis G80 was launched online from the company’s headquarters in South Korea. It features a new look and three new engines underneath.
The SUV’s quad headlight fixtures are almost identical to the 2021 G80, as is the brand’s huge shield-shaped grille. It’s an attractive look that works well. Only thing that separates the sedan from its SUV sibling is the lower grille piece, which extends the front fascia. It’s accented by a silver horizontal bar at each corner that adds depth.
This version of the G80 has rims that are identical to the ones on the SUV: 20-inch, five-spoke, silver finished rims. The dual turn signals, located just behind the front wheels wells, are identical to the SUV’s. There is even a signature line connecting the headlights and taillights that matches the SUV.
The similarities between the vehicles are evident inside, but the 2021 G80 has its own look. The sedan’s stylish interior features a 14.5-inch central infotainment screen. Genesis refers to it as a “touch and write” infotainment controller. It also has a 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument cluster, and a head up display. Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard. The unique two-spoke steering wheels are not carried over from the GV80. Although the G80 has a traditional four-spoke steering mechanism, it offers almost all of the same high-end materials as other models, including wood, leather and aluminum.
The 2021 update will include new safety technology. Automatic emergency braking, blind spot collision avoidance, and “Highway Driving Assist II” feature are all available on the Genesis G80. Also, adaptive cruise with a “Machine Learning” interface allows for the driver to learn his or her driving habits. The GV80 SUV also has all of these systems.
The 2021 Genesis G80’s power options include a 3.3- and 3.0-liter V6 option, along with the powerful 5.0-liter engine. The G80’s turbocharged 2.5-liter Inline-four engine produces 300 horsepower (223 Kilowatts) as well as 311 lb-ft (421 Newton-meters). It then gets a turbocharged V6 of 375 horsepower (279 kW), 391 lbft (530 Nm) and, in countries outside the U.S.A, a 2.2-liter Inline-four diesel with 207 hp (154 kW).
All that power comes with a lighter vehicle. Genesis claims that the G80’s aluminum construction accounts for 19% of its weight, which allows the 2020 model to lose up to 243 lbs (110 kg) over its predecessor. Rear-wheel-drive platforms of the third generation have a lower center-of-gravity for better handling and a larger cabin for more interior space.
Genesis did not provide pricing information, but they promised that the G80 would be available in Korea starting March 30th. In the second half, the sedan will be available in other markets.
