We also get to see the greenhouse of the coupe.
Mercedes Benz engineers are hard at work putting the latest SUVs, and crossovers through their paces on German streets. We have fresh spy video today of the GLB_Class as well as the next Coupe scurrying around the city. While neither is particularly groundbreaking, we can learn a few details about the upcoming people movers.
We are allowed to get a close-up view of the GLE Coupe’s dash as it stops at a traffic light next to our camera. The video and gallery below are both available. At this point, the interior is still covered and the passenger even pulls some covers down while the videographer tries to get closer.
We can see the large digital display that covers a large portion of the GLE’s dash. It extends from the driver’s side all the way to the middle of the vehicle. The next coupe-crossover will have a glass cockpit. Although we don’t know much about the display, it is clear that the new MBUX infotainment system from the automaker will be included in the package. Other changes are less drastic but still noticeable with the revised fascias at the front and back. Although it’s difficult to know if the doors will have any sculpting changes, minor differences are possible.
The GLB-Class’s boxy appearance is evident in the prototypes that we have seen. They appear to be production-spec. It’s evident in the video and photo gallery below. This particular tester still has a full camo wrap, but the cladding underneath has been removed. This reveals the overall shape of the small SUV. We have seen the interior before so we know that it will receive the glass treatment. It could also get semi-autonomous driving technology, which was recently introduced on the BClass. We know that it will ride on the same platform as the AClass but the SUV will sport a more tailored suit than the sleeker lines of the A-Class or B-Class.
Although both vehicles are nearing completion of testing, it is unlikely that either one will be revealed this year. The GLB-Class is expected to arrive in America in the fourth-quarter of 2019. Current thinking suggests that either the 2019 or 2020 models will be announced sometime next year.
