2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS Reveal Liftback Layout With Less Camo

It should have a trunk because it was built from the ground up to be an electric vehicle.

The upcoming Mercedes EQS is not an equivalent to the new S Class (W223). They are very different cars, and have significantly different powertrains. These new images confirm that the flagship EV will carry the three-pointed star. It will be a liftback, not a sedan, as the traditional range-topper from Daimler Mercedes-Benz.

You can also see the general shape of EQS, which is noticeably slimmer than the S-Class Sedan. The EQS has a coupe-like roofline in line with the

This is also a liftback. Although you can’t see the entire prototype in these spy photos, its tailgate houses a full-width lightbar that was revealed last month in a teaser.

We could go on and on about the differences between the S Class and EQS. Talking about the mirror placements and the small fixed glass sections at both the front and back pillars of this electric model. New for the zero emission model is the front fascia, which features a closed-off grille and new headlights that have a sweptback shape.

The 2022 Mercedes EQS, based on the new Electric Vehicle Architecture(EVA), will be a follow up to the Vision EQS Concept that was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019. This will be the brand’s first dedicated EV, as all EQ models and the extinct B-Class Electric Drive were built on a platform that was originally designed to house a combustion engine.

We don’t know much about the EQS. However, Mercedes has already stated that it will provide more than 435 mile (700 km) of range as per the WLTP test regime. We know that this will likely result in a lower EPA number in North America but still a decent range for 2022 standards due to the car’s weight and size.

The interior was shown off at the digital-only CES event last month. It featured a 56-inch Hyperscreen with a touchscreen infotainment display, a digital instrument cluster and another display on its passenger side. The screen-heavy layout is available as an optional accessory for the EQS. However, Mercedes has already stated that the S-Class will not be receiving it.

The production of the EQS will begin in the first half this year at Factory 56, Sindelfingen in Germany. This is where the new S-Class is assembled. An EQS SUV from Tuscaloosa will be available. Mercedes is also planning to make the smaller EQE SUV in 2022. The EQB will be available later in the year as an electric GLB in Kecskemet, Hungary, and Beijing, China. We’ll also see an EQE sedan at the Tuscaloosa plant, where Mercedes is also going to build the smaller EQE SUV.
