Because the world requires even more high-riding vehicles.
Ford is a hugely ambitious automaker that plans to transform into a modern, efficient and high-performance vehicle manufacturer. Blue Oval will focus its strategy on a single model, which will produce half a dozen or more derivatives. The Mustang is a car that will become a high-riding vehicle.
A new report claims that the legendary nameplate will be given another application. Ford plans to launch a series performance crossovers that will carry the Mustang name. This information was taken from Motor Trend’s April 2019 issue. It was also brought to our attention via The Drive. The story claims the manufacturer will use the new rear-wheel-drive-based platform of the 2020 Explorer as a foundation.
Let us tell you if parts of this plan seem familiar. Ford is also creating an all-electric Mustang SUV. However, these Mustang-branded crossovers will not be electric and will still be powered by internal combustion engines. Motor Trend reports that the new Mustangs will have a BMW X4-like appearance and non-Shelby Mustang power levels. We are intrigued.
Although this is still a rumor, we believe it will become a series production vehicles. It makes sense not to miss an opportunity when you’re a big player in the market, have the architecture, design direction and a famous name. Ford wants the Mustang to be more than a single model. Therefore, it makes sense to take a look at the ICE-powered crossover segment.
