Someone placed an order, and shared some juicy details.
In January, it was announced that the Competition Package for BMW M5 would be available this year. Production is expected to start in April. We now have more information about the package thanks to an Australian Bimmerpost forum member who placed an order for a BMWM5 with the Competition Package. The user’s description of the package is in line with the expectations from the German automaker.
We already knew some details, like how the horsepower of the biturbo-4.4-liter V8 increases to 625. However, torque remains unconfirmed. The M5’s competitor, the 603-hp Mercedes AMG S, has more horsepower than the M5.
We also learned more about the benefits of the Competition Package for the BMW M5. The Competition Package will give the BMW M5 a lower suspension. The front suspension is dropped by 7 millimeters, while the rear suspension is lowered by 10 mm. Other suspension modifications should also be made to improve the M5’s handling on the track. However, this was not confirmed by the post.
A revised exhaust system is another upgrade that will make the ride more enjoyable. As an option, carbon ceramic brakes can be purchased separately. A Bowers & Wilkins sound system is available inside, although it is not known if this feature is a standard or optional option. The standard features include a carbon fiber engine cover and the usual black grille badges.
We are slowly learning more about the Competition Package M5’s extra goodies, but there are still many details that remain unconfirmed. The pricing and specific options for the exterior, interior and performance parts is still unknown. We will learn more about the package once the car goes into production next month. The BMW M5 starts at $138,825 in America. You can expect the Competition Package to cost several thousand more.
