Diesels are dead Audi says not so fast.
Despite the fact that diesel-powered vehicles in Europe have suffered a severe drop in sales in recent years due to the Volkswagen Group’s expensive emissions scandals, there is still a substantial market for the TDI. VAG’s premium brand Audi believes that even a high-performance diesel makes sense in today’s automotive market. The Four Rings decided to give the Q7 a brother.
The new SQ5 TDI is here to greet you and it’s plenty of torque. It produces 516 pound-feet (706 Newton-meters) The latest Audi SUV’s heart is a 3.0-liter, 342-horsepower engine V6. It has a mild hybrid twist that follows the SQ7. It has a 48-volt main electric system. The standard equipment includes an electric powered compressor (EPC) that draws energy from the lithium-ion battery packs underneath the cargo floor.
Although it may seem a little boring, the electrified part is there to help eliminate turbo lag. Audi The EPC is described as the turbocharger’s best assistance. The EPC immediately kicks in and assists the SQ5 TDI at low revs up to 1,650 rpm when the exhaust gas flow is too low to the turbocharger.
To reach a “highway speed,” the Q5 is accelerated by Audi in 5.1 seconds. This is Audi’s way to say 62 mph (100 km/h). It will reach flat out at 155 mph (250 km/h) electronically controlled.
The electrified powertrain not only delivers more performance than a traditional setup but also reduces fuel consumption. Audi claims fuel savings of upto 0.7 liters/100 km in real life, so you have the best of both worlds. The SQ5 TDI comes standard with Quattro all wheel drive. This receives the engine’s power via an eight-speed tiptronic transmission. Automatically adaptable AWD can deliver up to 70% of the engine’s power to the front wheels and as much as 85 percent to its rear axle.
These are some other Q5 flavors:
The styling changes over the regular Q5 are subtle, as with all models from Audi Sport. Although the premium SUV is more aggressive than other models, it’s not obvious. It comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, but you can also opt for larger 21-inch wheels at an additional charge.
The new Audi SQ5 TDI will be available in Germany this summer at a starting price EUR67,750.
Last note: Audi will likely make another SQ-badged diesel SUV with the Audi badge. This is considering that the SQ8 was spotted at November 2018 wearing the TDI badge.
