It doesn’t make a difference if you can’t get it to the ground.
Dragtimes is back with more action from Wannagofast’s half-mile race held in Florida last January. We saw everything, from modified Lamborghinis to Ferraris and even the Ford GT. The GT is back and the competition is a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The car features a free-flowing exhaust that can make a huge difference in supercharged engines. The Ford GT is a bone-stock car.
You can watch more half-mile battles
The ZR1 is the superior car on paper. In stock trim it produces 755 horsepower (563kilowatts), but with exhaust modifications it can surely produce more. It produces 647 horsepower (482 kW) with its twin-turbo V6 engine. The GT’s seven-speed gearbox also has one less cog that the eight-speed auto. Although the Corvette is 200 pounds heavier than the Corvette, its extra 100 horsepower should make up for this difference.
Bench racing is not a guarantee of success in the real world, as it is often the case. We won’t sugarcoat the first half-mile run. The cars ran two half-miles. With launch control, the GT goes into low-drag mode and blasts away like an alien spacecraft from the Corvette’s traction-limited Corvette. We find out later how difficult it was for the Corvette to get that power down. The first few gears were almost useless.
However, the second run was much closer. The drivers decided to launch from a stop and do a brief roll-out with a launch at 40 mph. Although there were still some traction issues, the competition was far more thrilling as you can see in the video.
As usual, the video will tell the story about how the Ford-versus-Chevy fight ended.
