Land Rover Defender gets a Camper Makeover from Matzker

There’s plenty of space inside to eat, rest, and clean up.

Matzker, a German company that specializes in off-road rigs, has a special fondness for the Land Rover Defender. Matzker’s MDX is the ultimate off-road version of this iconic SUV. It comes with all the equipment needed to travel in the wilderness and return safely. Matzker also sells individual components so that you can still make a Defender without having to order the entire rig.

The rear section of the Matzker Defender MDX has been redesigned and covers a small living space with a pop-up roofing with solar cells. There’s also a sleeping area, a toilet, and a two-burner stove on the inside. If you find it too dark and claustrophobic to rest inside, the exterior features an awning that can be extended to offer shade.

More From Matzker:

The body has a higher ride height. The front bumper is simplified and has a large winch attached to it. The passenger side fender houses a snorkel air intake. The rack above the cab can carry spare tires and other tools. The living area has brackets that hold recovery boards.

The 2.2-liter turbodiesel four cylinder has 120 horsepower (90 kilowatts in stock trim). Matzker offers several upgrades, including a rally set that increases the power output to 197 horsepower (125 kW).

Matzker also offers a comparable adventure vehicle that uses the Mercedes-Benz X-Class to start. It’s a costly investment at a starting price, 89,900 Euros ($102,000 at current exchange rates), not counting the X Class donor vehicle.
