According to a spokesperson, the ATS Sedan has been discontinued.
Cadillac’s answer for the German trio (A4, C-Class, 3 Series) has been in production in Michigan’s General Motors Lansing Grand River Plant plant since 2012. The sales of the compact luxury sedan didn’t really take off, as evidenced by GM’s 2014 decision to stop production for three weeks. With poor demand increasing each year, it appears that the 2018MY will not be the last ATS Sedan.
After appearing in a leaked VIN document as a coupe-only 2019MY, the ATS in sedan guise was a no-show on GM’s fleet ordering guide. Only the ATS Coupe is listed alongside the hotter ATS–V Coupe for 2019.
Keep in mind that Johan de Nysschen was the former president of Cadillac. In July 2013, he announced that the ATS would not be getting a “natural successor” because the company wanted to “rebalance [its] sedan portfolio.” The fact that the ATS Sedan may be dying is not surprising.
Donny Nordlicht, a spokesperson for Cadillac, has added another nail to the ATS’ coffin. A representative of the company said this in an interview with The Car Connection.
He mentioned that Cadillac plans to overhaul its sedan lineup, offering three models to compete in different market segments. As a replacement for the CTS and the ATS, the new sedan family will include a CT5 model. This new member would replace the CTS and ATS, while a CT4 compact sedan will be added later. Officially, a flagship sedan is in the works. However, it has been delayed until after 2020.
