Jaguar Design Boss Wants to Make Cars Look “Wonderful Again”

Current Jags aren’t wonderful.

Modern Jaguars aren’t bad looking or lacking passion. The British automaker continues to make great-looking cars, but with a unique twist. Jaguar even takes a different approach to the next-generation XJ, which they claim will be ” stunning.” However, JLR’s new design boss is keen to push the boundaries.

Gerry McGovern is the new chief creative officer at the automaker, who oversees Jaguar design boss Julian Thomson, and Land Rover design head Massimo Fresccella. He recently told the media that he wants to make Jaguar cars look amazing again. This doesn’t just apply to the brand’s crossovers, but it is hoped.

“I am enjoying the idea of working with my Jaguar colleagues to get Jaguar back in the right place. It’s an exceptional brand with a great pedigree and lots of potential. McGovern stated that if it could be developed in such a way as to remove some of its limitations, it could be amazing again.” McGovern spoke to Automotive News during a recent interview.

Jaguar named Julian Thomson, the design chief last year after Ian Callum retired. Thomson stated previously that he wanted to make more glamorous. Jags and the brand’s new Gaydon design center, United Kingdom, will definitely aid in this endeavor. Thomson previously stated that he wanted to make “a data-inline-widget=”internal-links” data-params=”%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%223%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22jaguar-future-glamorous-designs%22%7D” more glamorous than the existing platforms at Jaguar’s previous facility.

McGovern is also interested in the next-generation Land Rover Range Rover, which will debut next year. McGovern told the online publication that the current generation had made a significant impact on the game and that the next generation will too, but he didn’t go into any further detail.
