The first images and details of the all new Volkswagen Polo GTI are now available. Here’s the story.
New 2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI photos have been released. When it is officially unveiled in Geneva next month, the fifth generation hot hatch will be available as a three- or five-door model.
Engineers used the twin-charged 1.4 liter TSI engine as well as the seven-speed DSG transmission of the Seat Ibiza Cupra. The GTI uses paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel of the GTI. It has a supercharger that kicks in at 6,200 rpm. At this point, it produces 180 PS (132kW/178 hp) and 184 lbs.ft (249 Nm).
The time from 0 to 62 mph is 6.9 seconds. It can reach a maximum speed of 142 mph (229 km/h) in 6.9 seconds. The ride height has been reduced by 15mm so that the 17-inch wheels will appear a little snug. The car will have stiffer springs that make it more rigid. It will also feature the same XDS differential from the Cupra which electronically mimics a limited slip diff.
The Polo GTI features a black honeycomb grille with red and flat-bottom steering wheels. The Polo’s tailpipes, to be fair, are connected on the left side of the car. The car appears to make use of LED daytime lighting.
Many of you have waited for this car for a while, we know. VW missed the mark with its mild styling, similar Golf GTI features, and nearly identical specs to the Ibiza Cupra.
