These renderings could be mistaken for the real thing.
Skoda has introduced its new compact wagons and SEAT has launched theirs. Volkswagen, however, is still working on the Golf Variant. Spy shots showing Wolfsburg’s new long roof model were taken earlier in the month (attached to the end). It shows a prototype that is currently being tested. A Photoshop expert has removed the small disguise that the car had and revealed a very predictable yet nice design.
It is important to note that Kolesa envisioned the not-for-America Golf cart in the flagship specification. This was the R-Line, with all the bells & whistles. The striking Lime Yellow paint is used on the vehicle, which is essentially the most expensive Golf model other than the performance models. We’d be interested to know if VW will again sell the Variant in GTD or R versions. They won’t be sold all over the globe, but they will continue to live on in Europe.
Customers will be most interested in the new Golf Variant’s cargo volume as a wagon. The hatchback’s 380 liters (13.4 cubes) capacity is the same as the predecessor. This means that the new wagon will have approximately 605 liters (21.3 cubes) of cargo volume. If you require more space, the sister model Leon Sportstourer can hold 617 liters (21.7 cubes), while the Octavia Kombi holds a staggering 640 liters (22.6 cubes).
We’re still waiting on the TCR and R hot hatches, which will be available in the coming months. The VW cabriolet will not be revived, as the TRoc Convertible has taken its place.
VW has not yet revealed when the rugged Golf Alltrack will be available, but it is likely to arrive soon. The mechanically related Octavia Scout, Leon X-Perience and the AWD-only wagon options to VAG’s numerous compact crossover offerings should join it.
