It is expected that the compact crossover will have seating for seven.
The new compact SUV from MercedesBenz has been seen a few times and the quirky front end is something we’ve noticed a lot. It is likely that the crossover’s camouflage includes a squared-off nose, flat hood, and flat roof. If not, this prototype may have serious panel gaps issues. It is unclear if the crossover has a similar shape under, or smoother lines to the smaller . This spy video allows us to see the front of the vehicle. There could be design cues from the new , which is quite boxy.
Mercedes intends the GLB-Class to appeal to families, even though it is classified as a compact car. It uses the MFA2 platform, which is shared with the A-Class, B-Class, but it may measure approximately 15 feet in length based on what we have seen so far. It is not compact but would be able to accommodate a third row of passengers, something that is not often found in smaller SUVs.
The GLB-Class will also be expected to have all-wheel drive, a feature not often found in smaller crossovers. The GLB-Class’s quirky look is proving to be a strong competitor in this segment. This could be even more evident inside the GLB-Class, which is family-oriented and packed with the most recent technology. We expect multiple touchscreen displays as well as safety systems and autonomous driving modes.
We don’t yet know which engines will be offered, but we do know that the four-cylinder options available on the A-Class and B–Class cars are likely to be part of the mix. Although it is not known if there will be a hybrid model, such electrification has become commonplace so it shouldn’t surprise that a plug-in version would be available.
Mercedes is expected to unveil the GLB Class this year. Sales will begin in 2019, according to some reports. The price is expected to start at EUR30,000 or $36,600.
