Ligier Teases a New 330-HP Anniversary Sports Car

September is the date for the full debut.

Ligier will be back on the automotive scene with a new model this year. This is the long-forgotten French sports car manufacturer. Although the French company is best known for its race cars, a new model that appears to be road legal will mark its 50th anniversary.

Guy Ligier, who was a former racing driver and player of rugby, will unveil the car in September. Ligier has revealed some promising numbers and sales will begin two months later.

The unnamed sports car will feature a 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces 330 horsepower (246kW). It will be mated with a six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifts and mated to a six speed sequential gearbox. The car has been homologated by the FIA under E II SH regulations. This category includes so-called “silhouettes” cars, which are cars that look like large production models and have four seats. According to FIA regulations, a car belonging to this group should not weigh more than 1,720 pounds (780 kg).

First teaser image shows a muscular sports car, with a prominent rear end and dominant diffuser. The vehicle’s light signature will be four-section taillights equipped with LED technology.

Other than the price, not much else is known. Ligier will charge at least EUR89,000 for its base model of the new model. This excludes taxes. At current exchange rates, that translates to approximately $103,400. Details will be revealed prior to the September premiere.

Ligier was established in 1968. It is most well-known for its participation in Formula 1 in the 1970s and 1980s. The company purchased the Microcar division of Beneteau Group in September 2008. This made it the second-largest microcar manufacturer in Europe, after Smart and Daimler.
