GM has two new all-electric commercial vehicles in development

The one is a cargo van and the other is an truck.

BrightDrop is GM’s latest commercial vehicle venture. It will still deliver its first model, EV600, this autumn. The EV600 will be launched alongside the GMC Hummer electric pickup truck and before the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq crossover arrives early in 2022. However, General Motors has bigger commercial plans. Mary Barra, CEO of the company, announced Wednesday that they plan to launch two new EVs to appeal to small- and medium-sized businesses.

Yesterday, GM announced its second-quarter results. Barra then revealed the two new EVs in a conference call with analysts.
One will be an all-electric full-size cargo van, which will sport theChevyBow tie. Barra did not link the other to a particular GM brand. It will be a medium-duty truck but it won’t just be all-electric. It will come with a full-size truck.GM’s Ultium lithium battery technologyOffer Hydrotec’s hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain.

Analysts were told by Barra that the new commercial vehicles will “complement BrightDrop” and help grow its commercial fleet market share. Barra stated that GM will have an EV for almost every hauling or towing job. GM plans to offer 30 models in North America and China by 2025. Although it is not yet clear when these two commercial EVs are going to hit the market, we don’t think it will be too long.

These two new commercial vehicles are the latest in a series of soft GM announcements. Chevy revealed earlier this year that it will be producing an all-electric version its Silverado pickup, which will be built alongside the Hummer EV. Both models will be powered by GM’s Ultium platform, as well as battery technology. Although electric vehicles are not yet mainstream, there is one sector that could be benefited from them: the commercial business sector, which will be crucial to GM’s overall electrification strategy.
