Most likely, the Q2 L E-Tron is only going to be sold in China.
It is a well-known fact that 2018, will be the year Audi will make its smallest crossover into a Q2L for the Chinese market. Rumours suggest that the long-wheelbase variant will lose its combustion engine to make way for a fully-electric E-Tron model. This version, like the conventionally-powered model, will only be available in the People’s Republic.
The Q2 L E-Tron’s name has not been confirmed. However, it is believed that its battery pack will be powerful enough to enable the crossover to cover as many as 310 miles (500 km) on two charges. This sounds almost too good to be true.
The standard Q2 in China will have the usual trio gasoline engines: a three-cylinder, 1.0 TSI engine and four-cylinder, 1.4-liter and 2.25-liter TFSI units. These will either be connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox, or a 7-speed dual-clutch automated transmission, depending on which option you choose. Standard front-wheel drive will be available, but higher-end models will get Audi’s Quattro AWD system. At this time, it is not clear if the E-Tron will adopt an all-paw setup.
Audi is increasing the wheelbase of its Q2 model, which is no surprise considering that Chinese customers still prefer models with more legroom than the next model. The model at issue would be the Q3 due to receive a new generation this year. The distance between the Q2’s axles will be a little shorter than the 2,601 millimeters (102.4 inch) of the regular model.
It makes sense that Audi, the premium brand, wants to electrify all of its models. The Volkswagen Group has announced a busy EV agenda following the Dieselgate scandal. The A8 plug-in hybrid will be the largest electrified model, and it will likely power the Q8.
