You can buy this luxury SUV if you have $250,000 to get on the Virgin Galactic spaceship.
Land Rover has unveiled a limited-run Range Rover that targets a specific market segment. This is Land Rover’s latest attempt to take the concept of special editions beyond the realm of just a few. The “Astronaut Edition” is only available to those who have signed up to be part of the Virgin Galactic Future Astronaut Community. This means that approximately 700 people will be able to drive the luxurious SUV after spending $250,000 to secure a place inside the spaceship.
The Range Rover Astronaut Edition includes a “crafted part” that was taken directly from the front landing skid used by the Virgin Spaceship Unity during its first space flight last year. This piece has been used to make two discs in an area near the center console, where the cup holders are.
Are you still not impressed? Land Rover says that an owner can remove the part that was damaged during a space flight and replace it with a portion of the wooden skid that was used in the customer’s spaceflight. The owner can also personalize the piece with any information related to their experience in space.
Other special touches are included inside that point towards space travel, like a “DNA of Flight” graphic on the front console drawer. This is made from carbon fiber. This motif has been applied to the leather-wrapped rear armrest, and the solid aluminum metal door handles have been engraved in the Virgin Galactic Future Astronaut community constellation pattern. This same design can also be seen above the glovebox and on the front headrests.

The Zero Gravity Blue paint, which was created for the Range Rover Astronaut Edition, can be seen outside the vehicle. It was inspired by the intensity and depth of the night sky. The model-exclusive design for the puddle lamp illumination, which shows the silhouette of Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo, is another neat feature. The “Astronaut Edition”, badge at the back and sides of the SUV completes the package.
The Range Rover Astronaut Edition is available to eligible buyers. They can choose from the supercharged or plug-in hybrid P400e model. The first has a electrified 2.0-liter gasoline engine that produces 398 horsepower, while the latter has a 5.0-liter V8 producing 518 horsepower.
The pricing has not been revealed, but you could probably get the Astronaut Edition if you have the budget to spend a quarter million dollars to travel into space.
