The truck’s huge battery pack powers it and also includes an electric stove that can be used to cook at the campsite.

Overland Expo West takes place in Flagstaff, Arizona. EV automaker Rivian will be there with its new R1T pickup trucks. Rivian decided that its model would be more appealing to adventure campers and off-road explorers than it was to a show devoted to them. Rivian is proud to have the first ever electric vehicle on display at the event, which has been running for 10 years.
Here’s a walkaround video:
Rivian’s rig is more conservative than other rigs at the expo and still functions as an off-road vehicle for weekend camping trips. Rivian’s bed-mount tent has an access ladder and provides comfortable off-the ground sleeping arrangements for two. A roof rack adds additional storage space for gear. Its custom slide-out kitchen, which includes storage, counter space and an electric stove, is the truck’s most distinctive feature. The stove is located in the truck’s bed at the front, just behind the cab.
Rivian claims that the truck comes with the largest automotive battery pack, 180 kWh. The battery will last for 11 percent of a week, which is enough to cook and light up the campsite. The R1T’s combined horsepower of 750hp (559 kilowatts), is a result of four electric motors that turn each wheel. We don’t know much about the R1T’s performance, but we do know that it has an electrically-charged offroader with a range of 400-miles and can withstand 36 inches of water thanks to its sealed battery pack.
Overland Expo: Explore the Roads Less Taken
While the R1T is still being developed, our colleagues from InsideEVs believe it will beat Ford as well as General Motors in the race to be the first all-electric pickup truck on the market. It is expected that this will happen in the second half of next year.
