These quad exhaust tips are a dead giveaway.
This is our first look at GLB 45, the hot SUV. The GLB-Class is built on the same platform as the A–Class. As such, we believe the GLB 45 will use the same horsepower options that were confirmed for the A45.
Officially Revealed Regular Version:
We’ll get to that later, but we need to know if this is a GLB45 prototype, and not the GLB 35 we have seen. This SUV’s true nature is revealed in the rear fascia. It has larger cutouts for quad exhaust tips, which are a hallmark of AMG top-tier variants. A subtle diffuser is also hidden between the tips, something that’s not on the GLB 35. The smallest roof spoiler is located just above the rear window on the tester. This could change over time, but it is a hint at the extra performance that this small SUV offers.
The GLB 45 will likely use the same turbocharged 2.0-liter turbocharged four pot that powers the A45. This is where the fun begins. The engine produces either 383 horsepower (286kilowatts), or 416 horses (310 kW), which represents the A45 S or standard A45. Mercedes may offer a similar option for the GLB 45. It shouldn’t take too much effort to make the change. The GLB 45 is a bit heavier than the A45 so it might be worth skipping the smaller mill to get the complete monte.
We are still early in the GLB 45 timeline, so any rumors will be confirmed soon. We are still waiting for Mercedes-Benz the reveal of the standard GLB-Class . This is expected to take place this summer. The GLB 35 will follow, but it is possible that the GLB-Class 35 could be revealed later in the year. A GLB 45 reveal may not come until 2020.
