You can be sure that a large automotive conglomerate like the Volkswagen Group will have plenty of new products ready to showcase at important events such as IAA. Although traditional auto shows have been less popular in recent years, the Frankfurt Auto Show is still a major Euro event along with the alternating Paris Motor Show and the Geneva Motor Show that are both held each March.
Tomorrow will see the official opening of the 68 th IAA. However, VAG will be hosting a “Group Night” the night before the actual start, just as they did with previous car shows. We will have a chance to see what VW has prepared for us during the sneak preview, which is scheduled to last approximately 30 minutes.
The highly anticipated production version of the ID.3 will be introduced by VW starting with the core brand. The fully electric ID.3 was teased in a long teaser video. It will be the first model to use the MEB platform and it will be available for purchase. It will replace the e-Golf from the company’s extensive lineup and introduce a new corporate logo.
The Mk VIII Golf won’t be present in Frankfurt, as VW has organized a separate event for the most beloved car. It is scheduled to be held at some point in the next month. It is fitting that the German marque ID.3 wants to be the IAA’s star, given the importance of the five-door hatchback.
The TRoc Cabriolet, a unique droptop crossover, will also be present in Frankfurt.
Audi will be at IAA to showcase two new products, the RS6 Avant (and the RS7 Sportback). The new facelifted A4 & Q7 will join the Audi Sport models, along with the first-ever A1 Citycarver & Q3 Sportback. A plug-in hybrid version of the A7 Sportback will be displayed, along with the SQ8 sports sedan and the A7. We’ll likely have to wait until the Four Rings speak more about the new A3 Sportback.
The pure electric Taycan will be the main attraction at Porsche. The high-performance sedan goes into series production today. It aims to compete with the Tesla Model S but at a higher price. The Macan Turbo and the new Cayenne hybrids will join it on the stage. The Porsche 99X Electric racecar, which will compete in Formula E starting November, will also be present.
Skoda will exhibit the Monte Carlo trim for its Scala compact hatchback as well as the Kamiq subcompact crossover in Frankfurt. To signal its electrification plans, the Czech brand will also bring the fully-electric Citigo and the plug in hybrid Superb. The next-gen Octavia will not be revealed until 2019, but don’t expect it to.
SEAT will bring the Tarraco in its new FR trim and a plug-in hybrid engine. As a sportsy MEB-based coupe, the Tavascan concept will be available as part of SEAT’s standalone Cupra brand. The next-gen Leon is yet to be revealed, but it will likely make its debut at a later time.
Lamborghini presents the Sian, the company’s first production hybrid.
Bentley and Bugatti are yet to release press releases regarding their plans for the show. Crewe’s latest product, the Flying Spur is Crewe’s new product. Molsheim has just introduced the Centodieci. Today, the Super Sport 300+ was unveiled.
