Netflix’s New Hyperdrive Show Is American Ninja Warrior for Cars

Street racers racing modified cars through an obstacle track. What could go wrong with these street racers?

A new television series focusing on cars will be available on Netflix in August. We have seen it so far and it is unlike any other. It’s described as a mix of Fast and Furious and American Ninja Warrior. The course is a crazy obstacle track that competitors must navigate using modified cars. We don’t know much about the course or the cars involved. The above photo is from Hyperdrive’s website.

The contestants will include “elite street-racers from around the globe”, which we’ll assume to be the cheeky Fast & Furious tie in. If the photo is correct, they will be driving supercharged cars. One of them will be an old Ford Mustang. It is claimed that the action is crazy and that the drivers and car are both crazy . We are skeptical about the claims of crazy stunts, except when they involve jumping from skyscrapers in a hypercar or being dragged behind a huge jet that takes off from a runway 30 miles long. The Fast & Furious franchise sets a high bar, but we’re not surprised.

The above YouTube video from Optimation Technology Inc gives a behind-the scenes look at the construction of the obstacle course. Although it doesn’t provide much new information, we do see a huge teeter totter, narrow roads through a pond and a Mustang doing an over-water rail slide. A few still-frames also show an FC Mazda RX-7 as well as a second-generation Chevrolet Camaro. It does indeed look very interesting, we’ll just say that.

This program also has some star power. Charlize Theron serves as executive producer and Rutledge is listed as one the stars. Theron was the character of Cipher on 2017’s The Fate of the Furious. Wood is a well-known TV personality from the automotive world, best known for his appearances on Top Gear USA as well as Lost In Transmission.
