The base price will increase by $550
The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from the Mercedes-Benz E-Class will see a power increase for the 2020 model year. Driver reports that the inline-four now produces 255 horsepower (190kilowatts) and will get a power boost to 269 hp (269 kW) for this model year. The torque remains the same at 273 pound feet (370 Newton-meters).
The German company will change the model name of its four-door vehicle to reflect the power increase. From now on, the E350 will replace the E300. The sedan will still be available with the nine-speed automatic transmission, and the option of either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. This option is available for $2,500.
Our View on the E300:
The E-Class’ 2020 starting price will increase slightly by $550 to $55,045 due to the changes. We do not have any information on the other E-Class powertrains, but expect the V6 models will continue to be available.
The new 2.0-liter engine was first seen in the C-Class update and the GLC-Class. It will also be available in 2020 GLE. Car and Driver report that the C-Class’s acceleration from 0-60 miles per hour (0-96 km/h) was a little faster than the previous model. We expect the larger sedan will be able to reduce the sprint time by a few tenths from the current 6.5 seconds.
The New E-Class is Coming Soon!
Mercedes is currently working on a facelift of its luxury sedan. The first spy photographs show that it will only be minor changes to the exterior design. The cabin will feature a revised steering wheel and touchpad. It is possible that the dual-screen layout will be updated with the MBUX infotainment software.
