A motorhome is also significantly cheaper than a new Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class was sold in certain markets until 2000. Lorinser Classic already sold many Puch Gs from Swiss army stock and made more beautiful restomods. Marcus Lorinser, company director, says that there was and continues to be a huge demand.
A two-door 230 GE was one of the surplus army vehicles. It had a hardtop and was made into a rugged motorhome. Now it is available directly from Lorinser at EUR 69.900 (or approximately $75,705 as of this writing). The hardtop’s expedition-themed design is inspired by a Petrus Bertius 17th-century map. This pays homage to an era when people traveled more and were still adventurous.
Travelling around the world is not a luxury reserved for the elite. It’s much easier and safer to travel the world, but it’s nice to get out of your comfort zone to enjoy real adventure. This is why Lorinser Classic designed the G. It also features a rear differential lock and four-wheel drive.
The Puch has a 4-speed automatic and a four-cylinder engine with 116 horsepower (85 kW). Lorinser thoroughly restored the SUV to make it ready for overland adventures. Marcus Lorinser says that the body was painted in matte green-gray. The underbody was preserved and dry-ice-blasted. The seats were also renewed and a lot more work was done. “The engine had only covered 88,000 km [54,681 miles] and was in excellent condition.”
The classic car section of the tuning company also installed a trailer hitch and LED headlights. Modernized rolling stock is achieved by BFGoodrich all-terrain and black-painted DOTZ4x4 Dakar steel tires.
Lorinser’s Puch G construction is really the residence. The old hardtop was renovated and modernized. The cap was sealed with a new polyurethane coat. This made it a great surface for applying the cartography-themed wrap.
The motorhome is small in size, but it offers many extras and amenities. New owners of the Puch can expect auxiliary heating, 220-volt sockets and a microwave. There is also a sink with water tank, a table and two platforms that can be deployed for the bed. There are built-in cabinets and storage pockets, as well as sliding side windows and tilt-open skylights that provide natural light and ventilation. You can also enjoy the comforts of home with an awning or outdoor shower.
Onboard house batteries provide power and can be charged using solar panels or shore-power hookups. This makes the Lorinser Puch G an excellent off-road motorhome, especially for those who want to go off the grid orthose who prefer the comforts of a campground.
The Puch 230 GE is not currently available for purchase. However, Lorinser has the ability to build a motorhome using their existing G-Class models.
