Ford claims it is the most off-road capable Super Duty they have ever produced.
Ford did not use the “Tremor” badge to mark a truck until 2014, when the F-150 received a more sporty version that included a few tweaks inside and outside. The Blue Oval will be reintroducing the moniker, but it is taking a different approach. Tremor now serves as an optional off-road package on the F-250 or F-350.
Living up to the “Built Ford Tough” ethos
Ford
Tremor is a 35-inch all-terrain tire that offers maximum off-road capability. It’s available in packs for the XLT and Lariat models of the Super Duty. These tires are “largest” to be fitted to heavy-duty pickups and come with custom 18-inch wheels in matte black.
The trucks have a 2-inch front-end lift and a shorter air dam, which allows for a generous ground clearance (10.8 inches) (27.4 cms) when compared to non-Tremor F-250/F-350. The Super Duty Tremor boasts the segment-leading water fording at 33 inches (83.82 cm), as well as the highest approach and departure angles ever offered (31.65 degrees and 23.51 degrees, respectively).
Let the Tremor Shake You
Customers can choose to have the pack fitted with either the new 7.3-liter V8 gasoline or torquetastic third generation 6.7-liter PowerStroke Diesel engines. Both of these are connected to a 10-speed automatic heavy-duty transmission. Other niceties included in the Tremor package include a Dana limited slip differential at the front, and a locking differential that has electronic shift-on the fly engagement at the rear.
Driving the Tremor
Ford refers to a Super Duty with the Tremor package. It features running boards that can be tucked up near the body to prevent damage, as well as FX4-sourced skid plates. There are several drive modes, including a rock-crawl mode that can be used in 4×4 low. The F-150 Raptor’s TrailControl, which was also seen in Ranger, is making its debut on a Super Duty vehicle. It functions basically as an off-road cruise controller.
