It should be fun to drive around town with its over 300 Nm of instant torque.

The Honda E is cute as a button. A new set of photos shows a prototype in near production, wearing lime green paint and sitting next to a white model. A press release accompanied the new gallery. It contains important information about the electric motor’s output numbers.

According to the press release, the zero-emissions city vehicle will be powered by an electric motor mounted at the rear. It produces approximately 150 PS (110kW), which works out roughly to 142 horsepower. Honda

claims that the torque will surpass 300 Newton meters (221 pound feet), and it’ll be readily available, as is the case for all EVs.

Honda has not yet disclosed any performance details, but Autocar has driven the prototype and it can go from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in just eight seconds. This tiny electric car is small enough to be fun to drive around the city. It has a rear-wheel-drive platform, 50/50 weight distribution and a low center-of-gravity. The car will also have a “Sport Mode”, which will increase the acceleration response to improve performance, possibly at the cost of battery energy.

The compact size and short rear overhangs, combined with a 4.3-meter turning radius, make this vehicle ideal for urban environments. Four-wheel independent McPherson Struts will provide comfort for passengers. Cameras will replace the traditional side mirrors and will be standard equipment on all models. There will also be two screens mounted at each corner of the modern dashboard.

Honda reminds us that the E will use a 35.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which Honda claims is one of the most compact in the class. The battery will be able to provide enough power for over 124 miles (200 km) and it will take less than half an hour to recharge the battery to 80% due to its fast-charging capabilities. Although the range should be sufficient for what will be essentially a city car, we should mention that the new Renault Zoe has 242 mile (390 km) of range due to its larger 52-kWh battery.

Honda E, the diminutive Honda E, will be available in production form in late 2012 but you can pre-order one in certain parts of Europe.
