Audi won’t be releasing an open-top A1 and it is unlikely that they will. It wouldn’t make a good business case. A model must be more than a pretty face. With the cabriolet segment declining in popularity, an A1 Cabriolet will fail.

Audi is not planning to make such a niche model in this current climate. Dieselgate has caused a lot of problems for Volkswagen Group, resulting in models being delayed or cancelled that aren’t essential. Audi’s A1 Cabriolet model would be one of the least important models, so there are very few chances that you will see it in person.

The regular A1 supermini will get a new generation in late 2017 or early 2018. It will also make the switch between the factory in Brussels, Belgium and the SEAT Martorell assembly plant, Spain. The Audi A1 supermini might be losing its status as the entry-level model. However, a new urban car will arrive in 2019. It will be riding on the same platform as the VW up: the New Small Family platform. It’s set to spawn an all-electric version sold alongside the conventionally-powered model that will only have gasoline engines.
