Stellantis Sends EUR1M to Ukraine, Toyota and Honda Cut Business in Russia

Mazda also suspends Russian shipments.

Automakers continue to make announcements about operations in the area, financial assistance to Ukraine, and/or both. Toyota, Honda were the latest to cease all business in these countries. Stellantis is one of many auto brands that have made significant donations to Ukraine’s humanitarian aid.

According to Toyota, all after-sales operations and sales at 37 locations in Ukraine were completed on February 24. Toyota lists 168 Russian retail locations, along with a St. Petersberg manufacturing plant where the RAV4 and Camry are primarily built for the Russian market. Due to supply chain disruptions, the plant will close on March 4. Vehicle imports will also be halted indefinitely. No mention is made of any changes in Toyota’s Russian retail operations.

According to Automotive News, Honda does not have manufacturing facilities in Russia or Ukraine. However, the automaker will stop exports of motorcycles and vehicles to Russia. A Honda spokesperson stated that operations would resume when the situation is normal. According to the report, Mazda is also listed as stopping shipments to a Russian plant.

Stellantis released a press release in which it announced a donation of EUR1,000,000 for humanitarian aid to Ukraine. This amounts to roughly $1.1 million USD in US currency and will be administered by an unnamed nongovernmental organization in the region. Stellantis employs 71 people in Ukraine.

Jim Farley, Ford CEO, announced that the company would cease operations in Russiaand also donated $100,000 to the Global Giving Ukraine Relief Fund. Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz also donated EUR1 Million to Ukraine aid. Volvo, Jaguar Land Rover and others have also announced the suspension of operations in Russia.
