Opel Details the Corsa GSi’s Powertrain of 150 HP

This hot hatch has plenty of power for its three-door configuration.

Opel revealed the Corsa GSi hatchback late last month. This powerful three-door will be a forbidden fruit in the U.S. This supermini looks sporty with bigger air vents and red brake calipers. It also features 18-inch wheels and a chrome exhaust tip. Opel did not reveal details about the powertrain. We speculated about the engine that the hot hatch with three doors could get, and we were not far off in our speculations.

Standard is a turbocharged turbocharged four-cylinder engine of 1.4-liter capacity. It produces 150 horsepower (110 kilowatts), and 162 pound feet (220 Newton-meters), of torque. Although it may not seem like much at first, the engine produces approximately 100 horsepower per liter. This engine is paired with a six-speed, short-ration gearbox. Opel claims that the Corsa GTi can go zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.9 seconds. Maximum speed is 129 mph.

Although these aren’t supercar performance levels, they will make a three-door hatch a lot more fun to drive. The Sport chassis, which is a hardcore OPC version of the GSi, should give it a sense of agility around corners and when driving spiritedly.

The interior of the Corsa GSi is not shown in images. However, customers can expect a leather wrapped sport steering wheel, a leather wrapped gearshift knob and aluminum sport pedal. There are also optional Recaro seats. Redesigned fascia, prominent rear spoiler and molded sills are some of the exterior design elements. The Corsa GSi is sporty without being cartoonish and stands out from other Corsa models in Opel’s lineup.

Opel Corsa GSi should be available in Europe later this year. It will then follow its Vauxhall-badged counterpart to the U.K. The Opel Corsa GSi is unlikely to be available in the U.S. even though PSA – , which currently owns Opel, plans a return to the country. This is likely to be the final performance model of this Corsa.
