Hyundai i30 Gets a New Diesel Engine in Europe

Minor design changes are also included in the facelift.

Hyundai already confirmed that it will present the I30 Fastback N at Paris Motor Show in October. Now, the automaker has unveiled a facelift to the regular-sized i30 models. This model is scheduled for a public debut at the same event. A new 1.6-liter diesel engine that meets Europe’s Euro 6d Temp emission standards is the highlight of the updated range.

Three power levels will be available for the new Smartstream diesel unit. The entry-level model has 96 horsepower (70kilowatts), and will only be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Next up are models with 116 horsepower (85 kW), and 136 horsepower (100 kW), available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional seven speed dual-clutch auto. Hyundai claims that the average fuel consumption varies depending on the power specification, body type, and transmission. This means that the average mileage is 53,4 to 61.9 miles.

According to the manufacturer, all gasoline engines for the i30 sedan and i30 wagon in Europe will now be fitted with standard gasoline particulate filters. All diesel engines will be equipped with exhaust fluid after-treatment, which uses a mixture of urea to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.

The i30 family has a revised exterior design that features a front bumper inspired from the i30 Fastback. There are also a few new exterior colors. The cabin features an optional 8-inch screen that can be connected to Android Auto or Apple Car Play.
