2023 Nissan Leaf Introduces a Refreshed Design and Simplified Trim Line

It will be available in S and SV Plus versions.

For the 2023 model year, the second-generation Nissan Leaf will undergo a mid-cycle overhaul. A simplified trim line will be available for the updated EV, reducing the choice to just two. Although the model will go on sale in the summer, it is not our first glimpse of its new look. The European version was unveiled by Nissan in February.

The 2023 Leaf will be offered by Nissan in two trims: Leaf S and Leaf SV Plus in the US. Nissan does not detail which features each model will have. The company states that the Leaf S will continue to be priced at the same starting price as the SV Plus for the next model year. The 2022 Leaf S is priced at $28,425, while the 2022 SV Plus starts at $36,425. The $7,500 federal tax credit could be available to qualified purchasers.

The Leaf will have a new grille and bumper. It also has tweaked headlights and brand new branding that illuminates. The Leaf’s aerodynamics were also improved by Nissan, including the rear under diffuser and rear spoiler, as well as the tire deflectors. Standard equipment on the SV Plus includes unique 17-inch 5-spoke wheels.

The Leaf’s interior gets a new badge on its steering wheel, and an updated start-up video on its instrument panel. The standard trims include black cloth, but Nissan distinguishes them with gray and black finishes for the SV Plus. The highest trim comes standard with Nissan’s ProPilot hands on driver-assist system.

The 2023 Leaf will continue to offer either a 40-kilowatt hour or 60-kWh lithiumion battery pack. This smaller battery is paired with a 110-kilowatt motor that produces the same 147 horsepower (322 Newton-meterss) and 238 pound feet (322 Newton-meterss) as the 2022 Leaf.

The new battery pack features a 160-kW motor that produces 214 horsepower (159 kW) as well as 250 lbft (338 Nm), unchanged from the current model. The new Leaf will have a similar range to the 2022 model, according to Nissan. However, official US EPA numbers will be available closer to launch. The 2022 S is rated at 149 miles. The SV Plus is rated at 215 by the EPA.

The public debut of the 2023 Nissan Leaf at the New York Auto Show will take place before it goes on sale later in the summer.
