PCM 6.0 features improved voice control, navigation and a new layout
As automakers digitize their cars, software is becoming an integral part of the car experience. Both large and small car companies are developing new infotainment software, voice assistants and smartphone apps. Porsche has also introduced Porsche Communication Management® 6.0, a suite software tools that will help drivers personalize their driving experience.
PCM 6.0 gets a lot of new features. However, the user experience begins with a better layout – new icons, fonts, and colors. It is important to have easy-to-read information in a car. However, glancing at the screen for infotainment is only one way of interaction. Porsche also added touch areas to the system so that drivers don’t have to focus on the road in front.
With improved voice control, passengers can avoid touching the screen entirely. “Hey Porsche,” gives you access to many functions, such as “I have petrol”, which instructs the navigation system to search for gasoline stations. The ambient lighting, air conditioning, and massaging seats can all be controlled by voice.
PMC 6.0 also features an intelligent navigation feature that allows for the download of the most recent map and can calculate the route to the destination in real time with traffic. This capability even shows the driver how many cars are in each lane. PCM 6.0 users can also use wireless Apple CarPlay (previously unavailable) and wired Android Auto. Drivers will also be able access PCM’s voice assist and Android’s and Apple’s respective voice aids.
A companion app for your smartphone is essential to any infotainment system. The Porsche Connect App allows drivers to access a variety of vehicle features while they’re away from their cars, such as remote lock and unlock. The Porsche Taycan, Cayenne, and Panamera equipped with the hybrid drive can adjust a car’s interior temperature with the ability to schedule precooling/preheating for planned departure times. Customers can also track tire pressure and door lock status from their smartphones.
With Apple CarPlay, the Porsche Track Precision App is now available on your car’s screen. It can track the car’s performance and features 300 international circuits.
Soundtrack My Life is a prototype of one of the most interesting features. Soundtrack My Life is a feature that provides a soundtrack to suit the car’s specific route and driver’s driving style. Porsche claims it isn’t based on traditional sound structures. It is more like a movie score. The soundtrack adapts to the driver’s driving style, such as how he accelerates, brakes and negotiates turns. It will be integrated with the Porsche Connect App if Porsche decides to make it.
