A dedicated BMW fan from the grave

A mockery or honorarium? A family honored the life of a car enthusiast with a one-ton granite M3 Convertible Headstone. Here’s the story.

Joanne Marsh, her husband Steve, died at 51. She wanted to pay tribute to him with a beautiful headstone that he could be proud to stand under. Joanne Marsh, also known as “BMW Steve”, decided that a sculpture inspired by BMW would be a fitting memorial for her and her children.

A Chinese exporter offered to make a scale-model BMW M3 convertible for Steve’s family. It weighs in at about 1 ton and cost PS50,000 (75,000).

The BMW logo can be found on the hood and trunk as well as the wheels. The dashboard is reproduced with exact replicas of the dashboard and silver-painted headlights. The car’s license plate reads “Steve 1”.

The massive headstone is not a popular choice. Some see it as a joke in a otherwise dark place. The family insists otherwise, pointing out Steve’s passion and sense of humor.

A family member put a fake parking ticket underneath the windshield wipers last month when the headstone was revealed.
