Acura NSX Type A Teased for the Last Time Before The August 12 Debut

Acura promises that the NSX’s swan song will be Acura’s Type S.

Acura will retire the second-generation NSX. A Type S version is scheduled to go on sale tomorrow. The third and final teaser has been released, though it is not the most exciting glimpse of a future car that we have seen recently. The attached video is just eight seconds long, and shows the red-gray duo on a racetrack.

This is actually the first time (barely we can view the front fascia design. The previous teasers only showed the rear profile and side profiles. They also showed the engine bay and plaque indicating the limited availability of 350 units. The clip below shows that the front bumper has undergone some modifications as the air vents were significantly modified.

Recall, a camouflaged prototype of the NSX Type S was spotted at last month. It had the same front design as the NSX Type S teaser cars. We think the normal model looks cleaner than the Type S.

Honda’s premium division already stated that it would give more power to the NSX. Although it is not clear if engineers have tweaked the twin-turbo 3.5 liter V6 or electric motors, expect the combined output to exceed the 573 horsepower (645 Newton-meterss) offered by the standard NSX.

One of the teaser images shows the engine bay. We are tempted to think that the Type S will have a more powerful configuration of the six-cylinder engine. Acura promises that the spicy variant will have a faster acceleration. This is interesting considering the NSX’s 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds. It is not clear if the top speed will rise beyond the current 191mph (307 km/h).

The Type S will offer a more intuitive driving experience and sharper handling. Only 300 units will be available in the United States, while 50 are going to international markets. The new version, which was unveiled tomorrow at Monterey Car Week will mark the end for the hybrid supercar line. It will be retired in December 2022, when the last car will be built at Marysville, Ohio.
