Acura only makes 350 of these. 300 of those are for the US and 70 are in Gotham Gray.
The Acura Type S has finally arrived after a week-long teaser. At Monterey Car Week, the special edition model will be unveiled to the public. Only 350 units will be built, with 300 for the US market.
The 3.5-liter twin turbo V6 with three electric motors is tuned to produce 600 horsepower and 492 pound feet of torque. This is an increase of 27 hp, 16 lb-ft and more than the regular NSX (573 hp) and 476 lb.-ft.
Upgrades include turbos from the Evo race car which have a 6 percent rise in boost pressure. New fuel injectors have been added and intercoolers are improved.
The hybrid powertrain’s battery capacity has increased by 20%. The battery output is also 10 percent greater. The ratio of the front motors to the gearbox is 8.050:1 compared to 10.382:1 for the standard NSX.
Acura also made some improvements to its nine-speed dual clutch gearbox. The gearbox can now shift 50 percent faster and features a Rapid Downshift Mode, which allows you to skip gears when you are moving to lower cogs.
People who want even greater performance can choose the Lightweight Package. It adds carbon-ceramic brakes and a carbon fiber engine cover. These parts reduce curb weight by 57.8 pounds. (26.2 kg)
The NSX Type S’s front grille opening is larger, which improves engine cooling. Carbon fiber is used for the rear spoiler, side sills, and front splitter. A carbon-fiber rear diffuser, which is also similar to that on the NSX GT3 racecar, is also available. The roof is also now made of carbon. Acura will produce 70 vehicles in Gotham Gray, a Type-S exclusive color with a matte finish.
The Type S cabin gains an Alcantara header. The Type S logo is visible on the glove compartment’s outside, while the headrests feature an embossed NSX logo.
