Acura TLX Type S Races Infiniti Q50 Red Sport In Premium Compact Sedan Drag

Both cars feature 3.0 V6 engines with AWD.

The Acura Type S is the latest entry in the performance sedan category. It may not be as powerful and stylish as the BMW, but it is a great vehicle for dads who are looking for a fast car. It can it compete with what might now be considered a forgotten sports sedan. Let’s see.

This is the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport. We reviewed it in 2017, and found it to be a sporty sedan. However, the poor infotainment system, and steer-by-wire tech that doesn’t provide feedback, ruin the experience. This isn’t going to matter as we will be witnessing a pure drag racing between these two cars.

The Q50 Red Sport has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 motor under the hood. It produces 400 horsepower (294 Kilowatts) as well as 350 pound-feet (474 Newton meters) of torque. Through a seven-speed manual gearbox, the power is transmitted to all four wheels. The sedan weighs in at 3,998 pounds (1.813 kilograms). It can sprint from a standstill to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just 4.5 seconds.

The Acura TLX TypeS uses a 3.0-liter twin turbo engine with a power output of 355 horsepower (261 kW), and 354 lbft (480 Nm). The power goes to both wheels again, but the TLX has a 10-speed auto. The TLX is the heavier at 4,179 lbs (1.895 kg). It can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.1 seconds. Which one is the winner?

This video shows drag races between two cars using different driving modes. It is interesting to note that all races have the same winner, which, when you look at the numbers, shouldn’t be surprising. It doesn’t necessarily have to be faster, but the newer model isn’t always better.
