Alfa Romeo argues that the 4C doesn’t need a hot quadrifoglio version

Officials at Alfa believe that the regular model is the best in its class

The 4C will get a refresh in the latter part of the year. But the bad news? It won’t include a Quadrifoglio model with high-performance Quadrifoglio like the Giulia or Stelvio. Why? According to Pieter Hogeveen (Director of Alfa Romeo North America), it’s not necessary. The official from Alfa Romeo North America was asked by GT Spirit if the 4C would receive the four-leaf clover treatment. His answer was quite clear.

“I don’t believe it needs one. It’s a performance car that can stand on its own so it doesn’t need to be Quadrifoglio-ized. It is already the best car in its class.

This statement will be disputed by some, especially when you consider that the 4C must not only face the Porsche Cayman but also the newcomer, the Alpine A110. Both of these are receiving very positive reviews in the press.

Pieter Hogeveen was asked if rumors about the 4C’s eventual demise were true.

“The car is still for sale. They are made to order. They are unique.”

He declined to discuss the future updates which, by the way, will not include the addition of an automatic gearbox. The official unveiling is scheduled for sometime in the fall with customer sales starting approximately one year later.

Alfa’s official was questioned about the availability of a manual transmission. The demand will exist, but Pieter Hogeveen said that the eight-speed automatic transmission was “far superior” to the manual Giulia.

The Giulia-spec U.S. model won’t get any additional trims as the existing ones ($38,195 Giulia and $40,195 Ti; $73,700 Quadrifoglio), are sufficient and the company doesn’t want to confuse or overwhelm clients with new trims. Let’s not forget that FCA’s OEM site indicated the possibility of adding a turbocharged 2.0 liter gasoline engine with 350 horsepower for a Giulia Veloce. This name is already used in Europe for the 280-hp gasoline or 210-hp diesel versions of the sporty sedan. The complete interview can be accessed at the source link.
