Although it’s still “a personal feeling”, it’s a positive sign.
We learned that Alfa Romeo will become if it has at least 10 years worth of investments. It currently sells two cars, the Giulia & Stelvio. However, two new crossovers will soon join the line-up. Alfa’s new boss is looking for more models.
Assuming that the brand’s two new SUVs will substantially improve its cashflow, a new sports car is likely to be more appealing. Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO Alfa Romeo, stated that he is keen to return the iconic sports car names of the marque’s past, which could increase the Alfa passion.
During the launch of the Giulia GTA in Italy, he stated that he was very interested in the GTV. “I don’t have any announcements or statements at this time, but I just want to let you know that I am very interested in the GTV. I love the Duetto as well. Let me bring Alfa Romeo up to a certain level in economic performance and then we can speak.”
Although this isn’t a confirmation, it’s encouraging to see positive signals coming from the brand’s top brass. It seems likely that Alfa will surprise us with some new models in the future, especially if Tonale or Brennero’s high-riding models. It’s not likely, but you should expect it.
Imparato stated, “Again, we emphasize that there is not an announcement at this stage but the GTV… Gran Turismo Veloce… I’m very interest in this concept.”
The last GTV was discontinued by Alfa Romeo in 2005, when it was replaced with the new Brera. Jeremy Clarkson, a 1998 GTV owner, called it “one of the most beautiful sport cars of all time.” However, with 41,700 GTVs sold over a 10-year production period, overall sales weren’t in line with that.
