It’s the original movie car and not a copy.
Remember the famous scene in the Wayne’s World movie in which Wayne, Garth and their friends sang to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody (see video below). Now you can recreate this moment by simply purchasing the original Mirthmobile. Invite your friends to join you for a quick singing session. We are serious.
Barrett-Jackson will offer the original 1976 movie car for sale during the Scottsdale 2022 auction, which runs from 22 January to 30 January. The car was finished in baby-blue with flames at the sides when the movie was made in 1991. The three-door hatchback was later sold and featured in Pawn Stars’ 2015 episode. Barrett-Jackson sold it for $37,400 in 2016.
According to the vehicle’s description it was restored to its original movie condition. This included the mismatched combination of factory hubcaps in front and chrome spoked wheels in rear. The car was stripped down to its bare metal, and the body and bumpers were resprayed. The interior received the same attention, with the dashboard, interior panels and seats being refinished.
The only thing that isn’t true to the movie conditions is the upgraded and new audio system. The original 10-inch speakers did not work as an amplifier was never installed in the car. The new audio system is now fully functional and ready to rock the Bohemian Rhapsody to its full potential.
This rare AMC, which is arguably the most well-known car built by the company has not generated a lot of buzz. It’s a movie car, but its modified cabin and new stereo system may be worth the price. We believe it could be sold for as high as $50,000.
