Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider Revealed with 205-MPH Top Speed Sans Roof

The roof can be added to make it even quicker.

It wasn’t an easy road for the Aston Martin Valkyrie to production. The development phase was not without its challenges. The hybrid hypercar, originally known as the AMRB 001, was unveiled in 2016. However, customer deliveries have not yet begun. The coupe will be joined by the track-only AMR Pro and the new Spider.

Open-top versions lose the coupe’s gullwing doors and are replaced by dihedral doors, which were developed specifically for the Valkyrie Spider. While the removable upper panel is designed to preserve the aerodynamic performance and weight penalty of the fixed-roof, it has been reduced to an “absolute minimum”

It inherits the coupe’s powertrain. The 6.5-liter V12 motor, which was developed with Cosworth, revs to more than 11,000 rpm. The Valkyrie Spider is sure to sound amazing when the roof is down and the engine revs at over 11,000 rpm. The hybrid configuration includes a twelve-cylinder gasoline engine and a Rimac-developed electric motor. This allows the hypercar to produce a total output of 1,140 horsepower (850kilowatts) which is exactly the same as the coupe.

The Valkyrie Spider can reach speeds exceeding 205 mph (330 km/h) with the roof panels made of polycarbonate. Putting the top on the Valkyrie Spider will allow for a speed of more than 218 mph (355 km/h). Although acceleration numbers are not available, Aston Martin claims that its flagship car has LMP1 levels performance and can set lap times “not usually achievable” in street-legal vehicles.

Production will be limited to 85 units in left- or right-hand drive configurations. Customer deliveries are expected to begin in the second half next year. Gaydon-based marque is pleased to report that the Valkyrie Spider has generated more interest than the planned production run. It will soon start allocating allocations for early adopters.

The fastest open-top Aston Martin will be displayed privately at Pebble Beach from now until the end, based on invitation.
