At a quick glance, it looks like a stock A8.
ABT Sportsline, a German aftermarket tuning company is not known for being tolerant of vehicle performance or design. It often takes already powerful vehicles and adds more power. It is well-known for adding body kits, lowering suspensions and installing large, unique wheels. However, not everything that the tuner company touches looks like something out of a Fast and Furious movie. ABT has shown a number of instances where it takes a more measured approach to certain projects. This Audi A8 is the latest example of an ABT project that is subtle.
The exterior design is clean and simple with no hint of ABT. The A8 maintains its pedestrian appearance and subdued presence. This isn’t an aggressive look. They look very aftermarket, but the ABT center cap is a clear indicator. The wheels are not overbearing. They are a nice contrast to the otherwise sleek luxury sedan.
ABT’s exterior control is carried over to the underhood. To increase performance, the tuner uses its ABT Engine Control unit (AEC). The A8’s 3.0-liter TDI engine generates 286 horsepower (210 kilowatts), and 442 poundfeet (602 Newton-meters) torque in stock. The updated AEC unit now produces 330 horsepower (243 kW) as well as 479 lbft (650 Nm). This is a small, but noticeable improvement. The new control unit is compatible with the original engine control modules, so all factory safety functions are maintained. The AEC unit can adjust up to 25 parameters and is integrated with the stock engine module.
ABT does not provide a price for the Audi A8 upgrades, but the minor modifications shouldn’t cost too much. This package is great for anyone looking to make minor modifications to the A8 without changing its stock form.
