It completes the quarter-mile in 7.47 seconds.
The Audi RS3 Sedan broke a record for a compact car at the Nurburgring this summer. We want to tell you about a faster Audi, but it has very little in common with the Ingolstadt performance sedan. Meet the Audi that is considered the fastest all-wheel drive Audi in the world.
The video was shot at the Arad International Airport. It is located 2.4 miles (4 km) west of Arad, in western Romania. Konstantin Dinev, from Bulgaria, set a new record with 7.47 seconds for the quarter-mile run. He also achieved a speed of 188 miles an hour (303 km per hour) and the terminal speed.
This Audi S2’s 2.2-liter turbocharged Inline-Five engine is fitted with a concrete-filled block engine block that was previously used in a 2.5-liter diesel. The new block allows the five-cylinder unit to resist more than four bars of boost from the huge turbocharger. It produces 1,350 horsepower (993 Kilowatts) on the wheels and 1,500 horsepower (1,103 HP) at the crank.
A special clutchless Liberty drag transmission uses compressed air to shift the gears and transfers power to the wheels. This gearbox ensures that the power flow is constant between gear changes. The Heed Auto team in Bulgaria designed, built, and tested the car.
We were told by the people behind the project that this Audi is the second fastest in the world, beating only a rear-wheel drive Audi in America for the quarter-mile in the middle of six seconds. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any information on this car to confirm its existence.
Last note: During the Arad race, a 1,000-hp (735 kW) Volkswagen Lupo crashed into the semaphore. This was then struck again by a 1,200hp (883 kW) BMW 3 Series E36. The accident result was fortunately not fatal. The semaphore was then repaired in time for the last round of drag racing. Below is a video of the accident.
