Audi S3 and VW Golf R Compete in 0-60 MPH Sprint, Braking Testing

Although not a drag race, it is still quite intriguing.

Mat Watson from Carwow has the privilege of driving some of the most powerful cars in the world. His recent video comparison raises an important question. How does the Mk. 8 Volkswagen Golf R vs. the Audi S3

Both vehicles have similar performance numbers and are likely to be very similar on paper. Both are factory equipped with turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engines.
Audi The S3 produces 310 horsepower (231 Kilowatts), while the VW generates 320 hp (239kW). The power is delivered via all-wheel drive. The S3 produces 295 pound feet (400 newton meters) of torque, while the Golf R generates 310 pound feet (420 Nm).
Apart from similar performance figures, Volkswagen ran almost half a second faster in sprinting to 60 mph than the 4.5. Watson was shocked to see such a remarkable figure. We were also impressed. The video does not include a quarter-mile run, since the tests were done on public roads.

The quarter-mile disappointment aside the brake test produced a minor role reversal with both the VW and Audi stopping in 45 meters (148ft) respectively. Both tests were performed at 70 mph (113 km/h). Although we would have loved to see a 0-60-0 race, the conditions didn’t permit it.

Watson was split between which hot hatch he preferred, but ultimately decided to go with the Golf R. However, both cars had similar performance, but he felt that the Volkswagen was more enjoyable to drive.
